11/30: Kuala Lumpur's Twin Petronas Towers

Earlier that day we had spent a number of hours visiting both the Islamic Art Museum Malaysia and the National Mosque before returning to the hotel for, what we expected, would be it for the day. About 8pm though, we decided to walk over to the Petronas Towers as we didn’t think we’d ever have another chance at seeing them. I can't tell you how thrilled I was that we made the effort to go as the towers looked spectacular and magical especially at night.

 Photos of the Petronas Towers:
The 88 story steel clad twin towers, which have become the figurehead of Malaysia, are the headquarters of the national oil and gas company Petronas. They are nearly 452 m tall and, according to my notes, ‘they resemble twin silver rockets plucked from an early episode of Flash Gordon. In addition, they are the perfect allegory for the city’s meteoric rise from tin miners’ shantytown to space-age metropolis.’

The towers, designed by American architect Cesar Pelli, are based on the 5 pillars of Islam as we saw from the round shapes of the towers. The 60m long walking bridge known as the Skybridge links the 2 towers on the 41st floor.

We had to take several shots before managing to position the camera at just the the right angle!

The beautifully lit Public Bank Building opposite Petronas Towers.

On our return from the towers, Steven finally tossed out the sandals he had been wearing all trip. He hated to throw them out as they were so light and comfortable. My blue shoes above still had another few weeks' wear in them luckily!
